Sample Questions and Answers from Class 6 Maths

Chapter 1: Knowing Our Numbers

Q1. Write the number name for 5,67,890.

Answer: Five lakh sixty-seven thousand eight hundred ninety.

Q2. Round off 4,567 to the nearest thousand.

Answer: 4,567 rounded to the nearest thousand is 5,000.

Q3. Estimate: 578 + 161

Answer: 578 ≈ 600, 161 ≈ 200

Estimated sum = 600 + 200 = 800

Chapter 3: Playing with Numbers

Q1. Find the factors of 24.

Answer: Factors of 24 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24

Q2. Find the LCM of 12 and 18.

Answer:

12 = 2² × 3

18 = 2 × 3²

LCM = 2² × 3² = 4 × 9 = 36

Q3. Check if 17 is a prime number.

Answer: Yes, 17 is a prime number because it has only two factors: 1 and 17.

Chapter 6: Integers

Q1. Add: (-5) + (+3)

Answer: (-5) + (+3) = -2

Q2. Subtract: (+7) - (-4)

Answer: (+7) - (-4) = (+7) + (+4) = +11

Q3. Which is greater: -8 or -3?

Answer: -3 is greater than -8 because -3 is closer to 0 on the number line.

Chapter 7: Fractions

Q1. Convert 3/4 to its equivalent fraction with denominator 12.

Answer: 3/4 = (3×3)/(4×3) = 9/12

Q2. Add: 2/5 + 1/3

Answer:

LCM of 5 and 3 = 15

2/5 = 6/15, 1/3 = 5/15

2/5 + 1/3 = 6/15 + 5/15 = 11/15

Q3. Which is greater: 3/7 or 4/9?

Answer:

3/7 = 27/63, 4/9 = 28/63

Since 28/63 > 27/63, therefore 4/9 > 3/7

Chapter 8: Decimals

Q1. Convert 0.75 to a fraction.

Answer: 0.75 = 75/100 = 3/4

Q2. Add: 12.5 + 3.75

Answer: 12.5 + 3.75 = 16.25

Q3. Which is smaller: 0.8 or 0.08?

Answer: 0.08 is smaller than 0.8

Chapter 10: Mensuration

Q1. Find the perimeter of a rectangle with length 12 cm and breadth 8 cm.

Answer: Perimeter = 2(l + b) = 2(12 + 8) = 2 × 20 = 40 cm

Q2. Find the area of a square with side 9 cm.

Answer: Area = side² = 9² = 81 sq cm

Q3. A rectangular field is 25 m long and 15 m wide. Find its area and perimeter.

Answer:

Area = 25 × 15 = 375 sq m

Perimeter = 2(25 + 15) = 2 × 40 = 80 m

Chapter 11: Algebra

Q1. If x = 5, find the value of 3x + 2.

Answer: 3x + 2 = 3(5) + 2 = 15 + 2 = 17

Q2. Write an expression for "5 more than twice a number n".

Answer: 2n + 5

Q3. Solve: x + 7 = 12

Answer: x = 12 - 7 = 5

Chapter 12: Ratio and Proportion

Q1. Find the ratio of 15 to 25 in simplest form.

Answer: 15:25 = 3:5 (dividing by 5)

Q2. If 3 pens cost ₹45, find the cost of 7 pens.

Answer:

Cost of 1 pen = ₹45 ÷ 3 = ₹15

Cost of 7 pens = ₹15 × 7 = ₹105

Q3. Check if 4:6 and 6:9 are in proportion.

Answer:
